Karin Amatmoekrim

Drs. Karin Amatmoekrim is literary and writer. Besides novels she writes for several nationwide newsmedia like NRC.next, de Volkskrant, Vrij Nederland, and De Groene Amsterdammer.

"In a developed country like the Netherlands you can expect people to rely mainly on knowledge before drawing conclusions. It is a thorn in our side that in the current situation this is far from the case. FORUM is a unique institution because it lays the foundation to acquire knowledge, both science and the practice of everyday people. This allows the institute to develop constructive proposals and methods for social stability based on facts. I find that very attractive. Without knowledge there’s little progress. The existence of FORUM in the Netherlands is proof to me that policy should not be based on superficial observations and sentiments of the day. "

"The multicultural society - and the challenges that come along with it - consisting of personal experiences. Problems may vary in their basis when someone from the neighbourhood itself is looking to it, than when a geographer, anthropologist, or any academic whatsoever analyses the situation. I am a combination of both worlds. And I try to bring that into FORUM. A bridge between what happens on the streets and people in their ivory tower. "

Tibor Kalmár

Tibor Kalmár joined the Supervisory Board of FORUM as a financial expert in 2010. He works as a partner at KPMG in the audit practice. His clients consist primarily of private held companies (national and international) and non-profit institutions.

"In my daily life I work as an accountant at KPMG. I was approached by the Supervisory Board to contribute to the mission of FORUM from a financial and economic perspective. A research institute as FORUM provides an important contribution to society. Knowledge is important, now and in the future, to society and public debate with sufficient facts. I think it is a worrying development that many people say things, but lack knowledge of that specific subject. In society people look too often at someone’s origin (where does your father or mother come from?), while there are more important things to look into, like education. Although the activities of the FORUM take place mainly in the public sphere, I see several opportunities for FORUM and independent knowledge in order to maintain an independent position in the future. "

Tibor Kalmar describes himself as a go-getter. "I can say that when I have my mind set on something I’m persistent in achieving my goals. I can quickly analyze and bring matters back to their basics. One of the reasons why I accepted the request to join is that I find important in addition to my work as an accountant to be active in an NGO. This is reflected in my portfolio and other activities. For example, I am also a member of the supervisory board of an educational institution. I put my knowledge and experience to it (indirectly) to ensure that students receive a good education. "
