Education, Labour and Social support: Projects

A. K!X promo teams

The aim of K!X is to better equip youngsters for their future. Pupils can set up a promo team at their lower and middle vocational schools which they can then use to develop their soft skills, improve their knowledge of the labour market and expand their career opportunities. K!X teams visit companies, organise school debates and cultural events, and via media contacts work on improving the image of ethnic minority pupils, lower and middle vocational education. Over twenty teams are active in more than twelve towns and cities. Schools can use K!X as an additional educational module.

B. FORUMtalent

FORUMtalent builds a bridge between young ethnic minority graduates and the labour market, so that supply and demand can be better matched to each other economically and be mutually beneficial. FORUMtalent offers ethnic minority graduates activities and advice to realise their capacities on the labour market, and also informs employers about the recruitment and selection, retention and deployment of colourful talent.

C. Platform Allochtone Ouders en Onderwijs

(PAOO, Ethnic minority parents and education platform)
PAOO is a national project which increases parent participation via knowledge and aid at national and local levels. This benefits pupils’ performance and the social development of migrants’ children. The national platform comprises parents from various ethnic backgrounds from around the Netherlands, representatives of the four national organisations for parents in education, LOM (national ethnic minorities alliance) and ISBO (Islamic schools administration organisation). It gauges demand for methods and materials in order to improve parents’ involvement in schools and also commissions new material.

The national platform provides support in setting up local platforms and in their daily practice. Local platforms draw up their own year plan, which they implement in conjunction with partner organisations and schools. There are local platforms active in 31 towns and cities and they have over 400 members. Their initiatives include working on plans to tackle school drop-out rates, language difficulties, internship problems and pupils being recommended for schools which are beneath their capabilities.

D. Trend meter

This is an annual report which studies what employers in medium-sized businesses think about the New Dutch as employees. The report provides insight into the position of the New Dutch in the labour market. Advice is given to employer organisations, the government and small and medium-sized businesses partly on the outcome of the Trend meter.
