Crisis mainly affects migrant men
The number of unemployed Dutch citizens from ethnic minority group was 82,000 in 2009. This is an increase of 15,000 compared to 2008, when 67,000 ethnic minority citizens were unemployed. Unemployment among native Dutch rose from 199,000 to 250,000: an increase of 51,000 persons. Although the number of unemployed native Dutch was greater, unemployment among ethnic minorities showed a more substantial relative increase. The percentage of unemployed ethnic minorities was 11% in 2009, which is almost three times higher than the percentage of unemployed native Dutch (4%). Unemployment within the various groups varied between 12% among Moroccan Dutch and 10% among Surinamese Dutch.
